@mekkaokereke I voted with Black women and for a Black/Asian woman this morning! My 12yo daughter watched me fill out my ballot, and I am so excited that she, a very white girl, is seeing her very white mother changing at least our family tree. I have hope that what we're doing will prove to be part of a new wave, a shift of white women standing with women of color to make change that is vital and beneficial for all of us.
@Bam@mekkaokereke@whknott All of our favorites are problematic--because they're human. That doesn't mean we can't hold up the good things they did/do -- we just have to be honest with ourselves and acknowledge aloud that they're sometimes deeply flawed.
If the flaws involve actively and systematically endangering the freedoms and lives of certain groups of people, then we probably need to reevaluate whether or not to keep them as favorites.
"If you can go through life without thinking about [death], maybe more power to you -- it's just that some people can't. They're usually called artists."
But because there was a school shooting in Georgia last week, and yesterday some idiot made a Tiktok video threatening entire school districts all over the country. Including ours.
Kids panic and gossip--so at 11yo's school, it turned into a rumor that someone was planning to shoot up their school today.
So my kid's nerves are shot & her anxiety is through the roof.
Her doctor prescribed #Paxlovid but told her "it's rough, so only take 1-2 days' worth." Rough apparently means "nausea." Therefore, cousin has yet to take any of her prescription.
What the hell kind of doctor is this
In related news, she is the 5th person somewhere in my various circles to test positive this week. (None of them caught it from me, I'm glad to say.)
#MaskTheFuckUp, y'all. I think this surge is gonna be grim and nasty.
I just watched the #JDVance donut video and sweet RBGesus is it AWKWARD AND WEIRD. I can't even begin to fathom what he was trying what he thought he was trying to accomplish. It's not even what anybody could call normal? chitchat? Nothing he asked or said to them was any kind of conversation a person would have with salesfolk in a donut shop. And every time one of them answered his questions, his response was, "Okay. Good."
@Gargron When it's my windows, it just makes me mad. 😆 But you're right, that texture is actually fascinating and somehow satisfying! Especially in b&w. 🤘🖖🖤🤍
@breadandcircuses My very sensitive, observant, and too-smart-for-her-own-good 11yo is far too aware of these issues. She was thinking them through yesterday and broke down into near-hysterical sobs that lasted a good half hour.
How do I comfort my child when we're already past the point of no return? /rherorical
I think the bitter taste is actually good news: if nothing else, it's proof I haven't lost my sense of taste. Beyond having a slightly stuffy nose, I haven't lost my sense of smell. That tells me I'm avoiding brain damage. Yet another good reason to keep taking the Pax.
So #MaskUp, y'all--especially in crowded public spaces. #VaxUp & get your boosters. If you feel the slightest bit sick--stuffy nose, scratchy or sore throat, pounding headache, diarrhea--STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM PEOPLE.
