I love it when designers accidentally plunge deep into Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance territory with grandiose statements like, "We need to define craft."

CSS' `:has()` pseudo-class is powerful stuff, and even moreso when you combine it with classic techniques like quantity queries and a mobile-first mindset. I wrote about it for @piccalilli! https://piccalil.li/blog/making-content-aware-components-using-css-has-grid-and-quantity-queries/

botsin.space shutting down is a tragic, yet understandable example of why I think self-hosted personal instances is ultimately the way to go.

Unfortunately, it also means the Fediverse's success will existentially be that much more inaccessible to non-tech folks. And that's bad for the culture. https://muffinlabs.com/posts/2024/10/29/10-29-rip-botsin-space/

The idea of “solving” alternate text descriptions by automating them away so that they are not a consideration is a bad frame…

@dahukanna Now at a place where I’ve observed that UXD/HCI folk don’t tend to stick around. A social network built around a protocol is kind of like vampires trying to tough it out at a garlic farm.

I don't think #WebAIM has an account on the fediverse yet, but the 10th iteration of their Screen Ready survey is now live.

The vital #a11y insights created from these surveys help inform our understanding of the technological and usability landscape. This helps to shape how accessible, and importantly usable experiences are created on the web.

If you use a screen reader, I hope you'll please consider filling it out: https://webaim.org/projects/screenreadersurvey10/survey
