@bsletten @stevesilberman I opened an account on Post.News & it does have potential. Although with all of that venture capital I am surprised they have not launched corresponding #iPhone / #iPad / #Android apps.

Post News currently is a glorified link aggregator.

I think what separates #Mastodon from #Twitter is their emotional community engagement of choice: Mastodon seeks positive community engagement while Twitter seeks negative community engagement.

@roelfrenkema I looked at it, but without any native apps the site is not useful to me (especially when traveling or inside buildings with awful signal). Also, my friends & family would never join due to a lack of apps on #Android & #iPhone (which would nullify the purpose of me setting up an account).

#Friendica is powerful, but it still is niche due to the friction with non-techies.

The seasonal news that #WhatsApp will stop working on #iPhone 5 and below #Android 4.3 highlights how the lack of Web apps is a significant environmental problem. Phones become obsolete in part because they don’t get OS updates, and they become incompatible with compiled apps. A lightweight OS for old phones would be more feasible if it mainly had to have a solid Web browser that facilitated a proper selection of #ProgressiveWebApps (& if manufacturers made open drivers/docs). #PWA #PWAs

アップルについてもう少し。先日 EU が 2024 年からコネクターを USB-C に統一することを義務付けたのを受けて、アップルでも iPhone を USB-C が使えるようにすると思われる。個人的にはもっと早くそうするべきだったと思う。MacBook ラインは 2016年ごろからすでに USB-C (Thunderbolt) オンリーになっていたし、iPad も徐々に変えてきていた。アクセサリ メーカーとの兼ね合いなどもあるだろうけど、規格にあったアダプターとコードがあればどんなデバイスでもそれで充電できるのだから、ユーザーにとってはこの標準化はよい話ではないだろうか。
