@Yoruka @djsumdog @meowski @Zergling_man It came to me in a dream.
All Android devices are dependent on proprietary software running on a mobile chipset and also for proprietary drivers for the peripherals like the touchscreen.
The only distribution that has bothered to replace proprietary drivers with free replacements is Replicant; https://replicant.us/
People love claiming that IOMMU solves everything, but really the mobile chipset starts up first and then decides to enable IOMMU or not on most devices.

@Hyolobrika >How is it possible to "sideload" an app
It doesn't matter what signature is on the .apk, what matters is that the .apk has a signature - otherwise both `adb install` and the installer GUI will refuse to install it.
It's a pain in the ass if you've just edited the metadata of a large (free software) .apk, so Android will allow storing it a partition marked as non-internal and even though the editing is done, you can't install the thing without also signing it and the default signer is only really bundled with proprietary software.
>FOSS forks of Android then?
As typical of "FOSS", every last one of those forks is chock full of proprietary software.
There is only one free version of Android; https://replicant.us/

@RustyCrab >which would probably be the end of viable open source phone OSs
99.99999% of Android installs aren't even source-available.
The only free version of Android, which being free software, has full source code availability is; https://replicant.us/
There is already a "viable" proprietary BusyBox/Linux distro that runs on many mobile devices called "postmarketos".

@sun >I think that an apple phone is more trustworthy and secure than an android phone
You're delusional then.
iphones are 100% compromised by apple, as they control all the hardware and software.
With Android devices, you can at least change some of the software and actually delete googles spyware (although play services pretty much acts like a rootkit once installed) and projects like https://replicant.us/ are more trustworthy that apple will every be.

>Mfw the samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 and 10.1 is supported; https://web.archive.org/web/20201112014608/https://www.replicant.us/supported-devices.php
I figure the s2s is something different, but here's hoping OP is based and is going to do a replicant port.
