For a friend, I installed the latest version of Linux Debian (12.8) on a machine that is starting to be old: a Compaq 6005 with an AMD Athlon II. The machine is operational and appears to be fast even on the web. As it is 32-bit and Firefox will stop supporting 32-bit in January 2025. Chromium was a good alternative.

Turned off #DuckDuckGo's AI features in the settings menu & thought that would persist after closing #Firefox, but 'twas not the case.
Seem to have solved the problem by turning off DDG's AI features & using URL shown in "Show Bookmarklet and Settings Data" as homepage in FF settings & then allowing DDG cookies under FF's "Manage Exceptions" for Cookies.
Cycled FF a couple of times & AI features indicator disappeared, so fingers crossed.😓

PS: yes, there is a fundraising. For "a future where our privacy is protected, where AI is trustworthy, and where irresponsible tech companies are held accountable."

If that is what you want from #Mozilla: go for it ⇒ https://foundation.mozilla.org/en/?form=eoy-pencil-aa

I want a future where my browser works for me. That is the essential foundation of online freedom, and if we lose that — as Chrome developments threaten more and more — all those other wishes come crashing down.

Where is #Firefox in that fundraising?

    Dear #Mozilla,

Please stop trying to tell us, what we’re supposed to want, and start accepting that we want a fucking great webbrowser.

You have a fucking great webbrowser.

Don’t ask me to pay for pocket or VPN that I don’t need. Do a fun yearly fundraising drive with crazy cool perks like a button saying "Friend of #Firefox".

Shipped worldwide. Payable in a way that as many people worldwide as possible can pay easily — e.g. from EU with bank transfer.

That’s my with for a present from you.

I use #Google meet for meetings in #Firefox, which works well most of the time.

Some meetings, I just watch a presentation, which I tend to attend from my desk. I like to pop the video feed out from the browser and put it as a separate window tile on my screen, removing the margins from the GMeet composer.

Today I found out that this doesn't work anymore. media.ccc.de works, but if I pop the GMeet feed, it just re-attaches to the GMeet composer within seconds.

    Anyone else experienced this?

I always thought DNT was as effective for Internet privacy as the joke "evil bit" improves Internet security.

Rather than signaling that you do not wish to be tracked, make your browser block tracking cookies (or better, pretend to accept them and silently drop them).

Or maybe Mozilla will find other partners, or sell off Firefox. I disagree with the premature death sentence, but AI isn't the answer either. Mozilla has been lackadaisical at best. Is is paying attention now? We'll soon find out.

"Indeed, paying Mozilla so that Google remains Firefox's default search engine seems like a bad move."

Mozilla remains profitable thanks to Google. How long can that trend continue with the Department of Justice coming after Google? https://www.zdnet.com/home-and-office/networking/why-googles-legal-troubles-could-hasten-firefoxs-slide-into-irrelevance/ @ZDNet @sjvn #Mozilla #Firefox #Google #AI
