For a friend, I installed the latest version of Linux Debian (12.8) on a machine that is starting to be old: a Compaq 6005 with an AMD Athlon II. The machine is operational and appears to be fast even on the web. As it is 32-bit and Firefox will stop supporting 32-bit in January 2025. Chromium was a good alternative.

To tell the truth, #Linux is somewhat the only system that allows you to give a second life to machines that are outdated today. Their original system no longer allows you to browse the web.

I even installed Linux Mint on an Intel #MacBook (from 2008) to continue to use it everyday. :0)

@WoodooProd I have an old 32 bit Thinkpad t60 with lmde on it, had no idea Firefox was dropping 32 bit support. aa, I think the t60 supports 64 bit, I'll have to look into upgrading the CPU.

on another note, maybe it's just lmde, but 32 bit seems really janky in general. when I copy a file it always says the wrong size and certain software inexplicably doesn't work for me like liferea. kind of sad, especially since linuxes sometimes market themselves for "restoring your old pc"
