@elduvelle why not the standard #mastodon app in #fdroid?

Projects like #Replicant and #FDroid are always looking for volunteer designers, developers, translators, and writers. Today's anniversary of the iPhone launch is a great occassion to join one of these projects and advance #mobilephone freedom.

@sun @mrsaturday @quinn i wouldn't blame communication itself, i blame the bigtech that control and pervert how the communication channel operates... if the article doesn't bring attention to bigtech then its effectively calling for more communication censorship imo.

the difference is subtle but it means the difference between freedom vs further inflicting mass narratve control. we should start actively informing folkthat the o/ses and firmare on their phones is bad for them, #fdroid is all well and good, but it means zip nada null if the underlying technology is a black box.

There's no F-Droid app for iOS at the moment. However, we've also got experimental support making F-Droid repositories compatible with #AltStore.

As Snikket is still not available on the #Google Play Store, we've published a longer blog post about the situation, how to work around it using #FDroid, and the long path of stupid Google review responses that led us here.

Three years ago, #FDroid had a similar kind of attempt as the #xz #backdoor. A new contributor submitted a merge request to improve the search, which was oft requested but the maintainers hadn't found time to work on. There was also pressure from other random accounts to merge it. In the end, it became clear that it added a #SQLinjection #vuln. In this case, we managed to catch it before it was merged. Since similar tactics were used, I think its relevant now

German tech news company @heiseonline wrote about loyalty card apps in their third issue of C't 2023.

Does any of you recognize that little icon in the bottom-right of the smart phone screenshot? That's right, that's Catima!

In the article, Heise explicitly names Catima as a good privacy-friendly alternative to other popular apps like Stocard and FidMe worth checking out.

This marks the first time Catima is named in mainstream media, an awesome milestone!

#Fedilab 3.27-beta-1 has been published on our #FDroid repo (for beta testers).

This release should fix crashes with `TransactionTooLargeException`

These crashes happened randomly while using the app (opening a profile, taping the reply button, etc.)

To get this release, you must allow unstable updates on your FDroid app.

Friendly heads up - Simple Mobile Tools was sold to ZipoApps¹, a company known for adding ads and privacy-invasive stuff. Their reputation is bad enough F-Droid preemptively turned off automatic updates², and the community has moved on to the Fossify organization, including Fossify Gallery³.

It's unfortunate folks didn't step up to help before the sale⁴, but ah well - progress has been made now.

Thanks for developing the most complete #Mastodon client I've found on #FDroid.
It seems you have also increased the upper limit of the "Max indentation in threads" parameter (Settings -> Timelines). Good idea.
