Degoogle update:

* I've started using Kagi as a paid alternative to DuckDuckGo / SearXNG and I'm really quite pleased.

Feels strange to pay for search but the results are consistently high quality.

Happy to support a business model built around providing a service to paying users over one that surveils me to provide a service to advertisers.

* Transition to Proton for email is nearly complete. Here's how I did it:

0) create proton account and poke around
1) aggressively unsubscribe from any emails I didn't actually care about (as they come in)
2) make a list of the top accounts that were most important to migrate (eg bank, newsletters I actually read, etc)
3) work the list
4) set up folder/tag filters for proton (it doesn't have a magic inbox auto-sort for important emails feature like gmail, so I had to put in some logic myself to make sure important stuff doesn't get buried under my like 300 newsletter subscriptions)
5) occasionally check gmail for accounts I missed
6) enjoy

@emanuele @louis Also worth knowing that #Firefox makes enthusiastic use of app tracking that can't be turned off in the settings. I use the app tracking protection that #DuckDuckGo provides. Attached is a typical tracking report showing Firefox to use a tracking company called Functional Software.

Leave Google now and help others doing the same by:

1. Switching #Duckduckgo or #Kagi (using !g if Google is really needed)

2. Creating an email account on one of the many ethical alternative while asking gmail to redirect all email received.

3. Trying @organicmaps and adding your business information on OpenStreetMaps (opening hours, etc)

4. Creating a @peertube account on an instance and uploading your videos there

All those steps can be achieved by yourself, alone!

On desktop, I use #DuckDuckGo almost exclusively. However, on mobile, it's only my secondary search engine despite being set at the default in #Firefox. Part of this was down to the fact that the #GoogleSearch app loaded quicker than Firefox. Part was down to the fact I like the rich results, especially when searching for music related stuff. Lastly it was down to the fact I had #Google set as my #Niagara button on #NiagaraLauncher. Today I switched it open a new private tab in Firefox.

Can someone please make a #SearchEngine that filters away #AI #LLM generated spam pages automatically?

It's almost impossible to find technical documentation any longer, because the first couple of pages contains generated spam contents which is slightly off.

Maybe add a filter on "only show hits on domains that have existed for [X] years"?

Il me semble bien que #DuckDuckGo a toujours été très clair sur son fonctionnement.
