#ChatGPT and other AI-based stuff like Midjourney, Copilot, etc, are going to create a denial of service attack against our collective ability to process information.

I believe this is already happening in academia and other fields where people can submit text co-written by ChatGPT and pretend it's their own. Teachers will have all sorts of problems with students claiming ChatGPT-generated texts are theirs.

But it goes further. Works created with these models will end up in courts, a lot.

Well, fuck. The GPT disinformation age is now.

I googled "OS for 4gb ram" and the first hit, which also was used by google to populate its snippet is an answer from quora which is very obviously created with #chatgpt (I recognised the non-committal non-answer right away, but it can also be detected by a popular GPT detector).

The user has 98 answers and, you've guessed it, they are all created with GPT.
PLOT TWIST: The questions where also created with GPT!

I don't understand why people are so fascinated with #ChatGPT and marvel at its obvious mistakes and flat out making up of things and lying instead of saying "I don't know". I don't want software being as bad as the worst trolls on the internet ;) #sarcasm because some people will try to start a serious discussion. I am not interested :)

Been seeing a lot about #ChatGPT lately and got my first question at the library this week from someone who was looking for a book that the bot had recommended. They couldn't find it in our catalog. Turns out that ALL the books that ChatGPT had recommended for their topic were non-existent. Just real authors and fake titles cobbled together. And apparently this is known behavior. ?

Seems like a problem that much journalism on #ChatGPT and punditry on AI and student #writing ... doesn't actually ask the students. They're experimenting and taking away different lessons:

- “Writing an AI generated paper was far more difficult than I would have expected.”
- “I would compare collaborating with [GPT-3] to being teamed up with the class ‘slacker.’”
- “I feel as though it would be much more effective for me to just write alone.”
- “Writing my prompts still required critical thought”
“This experiment altered my view of the definition of what qualifies as writing” and
? “I would recommend every person do a writing [experiment] similar to this one before they form any hard beliefs on AI-assisted writing”

The thoughtful and hilarious Gail Simone has a twitter thread on AI art in the comics space (via music theory). I think she sees things pretty clearly and realistically.
