Mostly I fiddle with #Fedora and #CentOS, but this winter break was all about #OpenWRT. I'm heading back to work tomorrow with a much more secure home network! For the last few years I've had all my Linux systems and blackbox devices (roku, sonos, google stuff, etc) on the same network, using a comcast cable modem router- the upmost in lazy network administration. Likewise my main desktop was also serving as the file sever. Yuck.

Homelab review of CY2024:

- Completely phased out Ubuntu machines
- Replaced CentOS machines with RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux)
- Upgraded all systems to latest RHEL9/latest Debian 12
- Migrated 90% of Git repositories from GitLab to Forgejo
- Migrated Container Hosts from Docker to Podman with Quadlets and AutoUpdate
- Automated maintanance via Ansible
- Lifecycle Management and Patching via Red Hat Satellite
- Overlay VPN between systems via WireGuard Headscale/Tailscale

Total stats:
- 2 Proxmox VE Virtualization hosts
- 20 Virtual Machines
- 15x RHEL9, 1x Fedora 41, 4x FreeBSD 14.1

- 2 Bare Metal Servers
- Debian GNU/Linux 12 for Nextcloud, E-Mail and file-storage
- Proxmox Backup-Server for Backup

- 2 Cloud Instances
- RHEL9 as my Container Host (Podman)
- Debian GNU/Linux 12 for burningboard.net Mastodon instance

- One Raspberry PI with Debian 12 for Home-Assistant

Hey my #RedHat #CentOS friends. Is there a Cloud image for x86_64 that is compatible with EFI?

Images on https://cloud.centos.org/centos/9-stream/x86_64/images/CentOS-Stream-GenericCloud-9-latest.x86_64.qcow require BIOS boot mode.

On one hand, seeing how many people are impacted by taking down #CentOS 7 repositories and moving them to vault, I wonder whether we should have a different procedure for the EOL...

On the other, seeing how many people are impacted by taking down centos 7 repositories, looks like it was a right move. If people are still surprised and haven't checked what does EOL means for their systems in advance, it means we need this wake-up call.

Earlier today at #almalinux we patched CVE-2023-38403 in iperf3 and released it prior to anyone else in the EL-ecosystem. We promptly submitted PRs with #centos and #fedora.

I get the feeling too many people are sleeping on CentOS Stream because of how the CentOS #Linux EOL thing went down.

I mean sure, the messaging wasn't great but it happened and it is what it is. Don't let that detract from the greatness of the #CentOS Stream project in its own right and as a collaboration point for all the #RHEL based distros.

The gravity seems lost on most that for the first time ever the RHEL development process happens in the open. That's amazing. I love it. #community
