Sure. I mean, on Mastodon, I’d certainly appreciate features like “pick a few items of likely interest that I missed while I was away” or “recommend some new follow based on what I’m boosting.” I like recommender systems! Per your OP, it’s all about consent and control — over both inputs and outputs — not about whether recommenders exist.
