    >Just...how much they have managed to fuck everyone is the amazing part. I have a windows box for work stuff, and it's unusable to me.
You can make Windows bearable with PowerToys which lets you have custom keyboard remaps, a functioning search with a run box alá macOS Spotlight. AutoHotkey handles my other keyboard shortcuts. LTSC versions also have a lot of the crap gone which helps. But if you can't change anything in your setup like corporate loves to do, you can't do much. I switched to a CrapBook Pro 16" at work from some generation of ChinkPad X1 mainly due to the stupid amounts of company bloatware that made it chew through the battery and barely run. It's just a glorified SSH terminal and VM host anyway. Apple tends to grind my gears with their crappy iOS, but macOS is less annoying and certainly less shit than the Windows setup we have. I would like proper 15.6" ChinkPad with Linux on it, but that's beyond what I have say in.

If you can use clang instead of the MSVC toolchain (ABI compatibility issues with C++ libraries compiled with MSVC), MSYS2 is probably you best bet for a mostly sane development environment on Windows and as a bonus you don't have to compile fifty thousand dependencies from vcpkg every time you build a project. For editing on Windows, I use Sublime, because using my vim setup on Windows always felt awkward in multiple ways. And when I need an IDE and don't want to wait for an infinite amount of time for VS to load, I usually go with JetBrains, but most of the ones you would want are payed so I just reuse a license from work. You can crack them, but then you loose access to some plugins.
