Also similarly to how you can have Hurd in place of kernel, nothing prevents you from having non-gnu implementations in place of userspace. There is everything now - from libc and compilers to shells and utils, GNU evangelism is best angled towards sustaining of the freedoms, rather than linguistic autism that is no longer necessarily relevant, at least for some distros.
