I like animals, excluding birds/fish/bugs/monkeys, so I don't eat the ones I like.
Your post hoc rationality MUST be everyone's rationality? I like sheep and I eat them. Same for chickens. People are detached from their food, which is more of a problem from an ethics standpoint than a lot people want to acknowledge. My kids know that meat comes from animals, and one of them stopped eating beef for a while after seeing beef tongue. End of the day, we're omnivores that generally do well with any diet besides purely vegan (and even that is possible although much more difficult). We don't have to wrap things up in fancy ideological veneers.
