Herbs have too many things going on to be isolated and studied in the way pharma pulls things off with drugs. Herbs also have varying concentrations from plant to plant, even based on what other plants they were grown near!, making dosing very hard to do precisely. The ultimate irony would be taking seven pills prescribed that can all be found in a single herbal (not that I know this happened, but it could).
