I've never had one even slightly break. I have some wear and tear on the spacebar on one of them, that's it. All the keys respond the same as when I first got it. I fuckin' love these things. I mainly got it because of the Unix layout; at the time my last Sun keyboard died (*those* things were unreliable by the time the Type 6 and Type 7 came out; they felt good but the circuts were on thin layers of acrylic or something and they'd spontaneously fry after a certain age), they were the only manufacturer I knew of that would sell me a keyboard with the Unix layout and a USB connector.
That having been said, if you've built your own, it's probably going to be a closer fit to what you want. They're not QMK-compatible or anything. Just very good keyboards.
