@alienghic @MisuseCase @liztai My experience of China is that most people are almost as parochial and ignorant about the world as Americans. Overall I found the PRC and USA to be strikingly culturally similar. (Anecdote: a new colleague asked me where I'm from. And then, "how many women are you allowed to marry there?") My general theory is that this is nothing to do with the media, rather both countries are large enough that there's just very little reason to engage with any other place. Whereas in Europe and SE Asia, active interest in neighbouring countries is an essential survival trait.
