Really, among the main reasons why unions in the US are as bad as they are in comparison to other places is at times criminal nature of the relationship between labor and management that in the union's place often ends up in a sort of protection racket, little different from the mafia in many regards—think about the whole situation with Jimmy Hoffa, instead of a legitimate alternative labor/economics political faction. Management is so scummy that the unions have to just as dirty to keep up with them.
