Politics is transactional. If you consistently reward the other person in the transaction (in this case, by voting them into power) despite them never holding up their end of the transaction, things do not get better.

I agree getting involved at a local level is good, I think more people should do that. Making increasingly desparate copes for how trump or anyone else in the GOP is helpful for us just on the grounds that "they're less bad than the other guy" is just a frog accepting the water being boiled slower.
