The Bible couldn't exist without Christianity already existing (all events are past tense barring letters and prophecy, but even those are recorded after the letter was written or prophecy spoken). I believe it is perfectly sound to use the Bible as your only source of Christian guidance provides you have good exagesis, but I believe such things are extremely rarely paired together. That is explicitly not a condemnation of my Protestant brothers, but rather a recognition of the virtue of the pursuit and its challenges.
As for communion, you can look at the oldest texts and see evidence of what the early believers practiced and, to my knowledge, they believed in The Real Presence during communion.
