Yes they work, but due to space limitations their cooling system may even be slightly underspeced or results into the case heating up significantly. Also when CD drives were commin the hardware did not draw as much power as some components today do, thus resulting into less heat. Yes such cases like yours work, but are not ideal. Especially if you compare them to ones with mesh at the front.
