Precision metalworking isn't as easy or accessible as you're making it seem, and even hobby level tools are tremendously expensive compared to a 3d printer. Sure, 3d printed guns are kind of gimmicky, but when gimmicky lasts upwards of a thousand rounds and costs $5 to make and replace, gimmicky is making a pretty good showing.
