speaking as an American, everything you say fits Europe perfectly. But in the USA we've built every aspect of our society on the automobile, and so then ev does become the band aid solution. While we pursue civic policies that encourage more dense living so we can also exist happily without a need for a car. then we can jettison autos entirely. It's just that that goal is further out, for the usa at least
