> sure, but MacOs and apple ecosystem is just more productive.
I remember the last time I tried to use one and I had to click on a bunch of shit and watch progress bars before it would even give me a C compiler.
:brian3: No C compiler.
:brain0: Clicking shit and looking at progress bars because you can't install shit and you can't do anything else because you have to confirm things and type in survey information.
:brain1: C compiler available, you just type something and let it run and you can do other things while it does.
:brain2: C compiler comes with OS.
:brain3: C compiler was written by Ken Thompson. :kenbw:
:alexjonesbrain: No C compiler because it is a Forth system or something weird like Woz wrote that bytecode VM that was pretty cool. :chuckmoore:
Although the compiler is available under the GPL and has been for some time, only Plan 9 uses kencc: Plan 9 is the only top-tier OS.
The next tier is most Linux/BSD systems. Nothing to write home about.
The next tier is Windows or bullshit like Debian where you have to apt-got a bunch of wooly behemoths.
The next tier is OSX. Everything is manual. It is an operating system that is behind *Linux* in terms of usability. Most of the credible technical people that use OSX only ever install iTerm so they can ssh to a real machine.
The last tier, where you can't get a compiler or do anything useful, is reserved for bullshit fake operating systems like iOS, Android. This proves that they were lying the entire time: "We're just hiding that stuff so that it doesn't confuse people." became "Most people don't need it so we don't ship it with the OS." became "Licensed developers only. If we let you have the compiler, you will only use it to ruin your experience." became the end of the goddamn world because it was never about "good user experience" but "controlled user experience plus snitching to the feds".
Here are some words from 1984 when Woz and :rms: and :captcrunch: and a bunch of other cool hackers were in the same room at the same time and they all said the future was going to suck in this specific way and it did.
