i don't ascribe it to a generation, because that's also a bunch of capitalist nonsense. instead, i ascribe it directly to capitalist bullshit, because it is. it's a product of "growth without end", when software develops beyond its original purpose and just becomes yet another vehicle to jam in more "clever" features that don't help anyone.
