We can't just flip a switch to make everything EVs either. That's going to take decades too.

Except it isn't clear how we're going to source all the lithium and other rare earth elements to actually make all of the vehicles it would require. We also have to massively build out the electrical grid to power all the chargers we need, and supply the necessary electricity. And in general, having every person own their own car is insanely inefficient.
