If that were true, then why is it that GOG, who strictly have zero DRM on the games they distribute, hasn’t gone out of business? Hell, I know for a fact that something like two thirds of the games I own I wouldn’t have bought without pirating them first.

The uncomfortable truth driving that piece of propaganda is twofold:

1. Pirated media cannot be censored by authorities or “hosting services”, meaning that “problematic content” can’t be controlled.

And 2. Piracy only hurts the sale of mediocre media. This is why so many of the creators who are the loudest about piracy are often the dregs of their respective fields.
