The effects on us are abstract. It's jobs we don't get, it's social services under strain, it's housing prices going up as demand rises but supply doesn't, it's all of these things. It's not necessary to see shit on the sidewalk for there to be real effects.

Meta recently did a huge round of layoffs. The overwhelming majority of those who lost work were American citizens. The H-1Bs were kept around, I would assume because they're more beholden to their employer and are thus easier to squeeze more out of.
