I'm just pointing out that in the US "cruel AND unusual" has been erroneously interpreted to mean something akin to "humane."
By historical standards, leather injection, the electric chair, and the gas chamber are unusual. Cruel? All executions are cruel in a sense. They're not torture though.
Lex Talionis is neither cruel nor unusual, it's just, and should be brought back as a form of punishment. It would certainly deter certain types of violence. Lethal injection is foreign to the mind and means nothing. Getting stabbed when you've stabbed is far more cognizable.
