Nah that's dumb. Think about how anti-social and vindictive a lot of people in software are. (Many of them probably got bullied too much at school and didn't take it well.)

If you take their unlicensed code because you thought they're cool, and make something serious out of it that you may even start to make money with, but then they start sperging at you because you called their waifu a shit, they may very much try to sue you.

A free software license is simply a guarantee that no matter how much the author spergs out, they have no recourse against you using that code in accordance with the license terms. I'd very much prefer to have that guarantee, especially when working with randoms online who I don't know very well.
