@anokasion @cnx @Jain @xarvos @lanodan BSD's use weak licenses, thus proprietary software businesses just take it (and half the time don't follow the license and don't include the copyright notice and nothing happens) and usually never give any donations (or a pitiful amount) and usually don't even publish the direct modified source code.

I've only ever seen apple give $5 to a BSD (which one I don't remember), but only because an employee donated and apple had a donation matching arrangement.


Occasionally such businesses contribute something to upstream, but that's just to save them a bit of work, as maintaining their out of tree proprietary patches is easier if some of the non-important changes are up-streamed.
