   As someone who really resents the experience of procuring female clothing:

   Saving money in order to invest in and develop a relationship with a bespoke tailor who gets my preference for materials and styles has been a revelation.

   Most formal clothing available in the U.S. does not fit my body type at all.

   I tried a tailor in Malaysia where I visit often, and they’ll now be able to send me stuff based on my text messages. I am so, so relieved.

   I want to have a better relationship with clothing, but I do not want to engage in fast fashion or the experience of ‘shopping’.

   I know what I want and don’t want (too long shirts, too stiff collars, stuff that looks weird tucked in because it’s not made for my body type). I like being able to say I want a pocket here or there, or use some material that is good for specific weather.

   I don’t think I’ll ever go back to getting anything off the rack, ideally (I have a very difficult relationship with shopping and it literally makes me cry)

     I haven’t had great experiences doing this in Thailand or Vietnam. I think the tailoring industry in those countries is pretty decent but works better for men. For women’s clothing, I find them not as good or skilled (or interested in the business really).

     I was lucky to find a tailor that has an equally vibrant female tailoring department and I’m so pleased with the work I am going to get more stuff done before I go.

     It’s a bit of a luxury, but it is going to immeasurably improve my life. I will do anything, and pay any amount of money, to never have to shop for clothing from a store ever again.

     You don’t understand, I do not want to be around clothes, putting on and taking off clothes, and I especially do not want to be searching for clothes that mostly do not fit me. I love the idea of thrifting! But if I had to describe my aversion to procuring clothing, I would say it’s one of my top three life stressors

     @johnefrancis @mayintoronto ha, I learned that anyone with the same waist size as me in N America seems to have 2x longer legs.

     Not a difficult fix, but sometimes I’m just tired

     @skinnylatte I once made the mistake of trying to go clothing shopping at regular stores in China. They don't make them in my size. I had to go to the big Western brands with their ridiculous markup. Never found a good tailor in my time there, and I didn't speak enough clothing-Mandarin to communicate what I wanted.

     Although the bra shopping experience was fascinating.

     @skinnylatte Slightly under packed for a recent trip to Singapore and that turned out to be the weirdest shopping experience I’ve ever had. One of the only places selling plus sizes I could find was in an otherwise abandoned dark mall in the basement of a hotel with intense back room vibes. Somehow almost everything was $2 and nothing in the store matched anything else

     @skinnylatte oh man, people say this about plus sizes too but the plus size selection at thrift stores is even worse than normal stores because once you’ve found a decent item that fits in plus sizes, you wear it until it’s worn out most of the time.
