You know it occurs to me that the training data for Jai/Odin/Zig is going to be substantially more sparse than for Rust/C++/C#

Therefore learning one of the former languages is good job security against clankers :thinkretard:

      tbh ai is kibda mid

everyone I see says it works, and when I put my head down and make. a project happen, the ai has something that "works" but is probably a 2/10 imolementation at worst and a 4/10 at best

@sun @binkle @sarvo i think you're mistaken, ai actually is just a theft machine and can't invent and do anything

@sarvo @sun Julia is definitely not obscure enough dawg I've been hearing about that one for years

maybe something with very niche appeal like FORTH?

@binkle @sarvo I just don't think anything is going to work.

I've had the AI write a brand new language; then told it to make a compiler for that language; then write programs in that language. and it was able to do all of that nearly flawlessly without even a "training on a corpus of this new weird language" step.

@binkle@clubcyberia.co @sun@shitposter.world you need an even more obscure language like crystal or Julia.

@binkle I had an LLM write an entire new cpu architecture and ISA in Zig, it is quite good at it.

@mischievoustomato @binkle @sarvo I am trying to be respectful of reasonable criticism of AI while being honest about what it's capable of doing. I don't even disagree with a lot of the negative shit about it including people that just plain don't like it and hate having it rammed down their throat

@sun @binkle @sarvo it's hard for me to not sound like a jerk when i don't intend to be a jerk (and viceversa).

@mischievoustomato @binkle @sarvo theft machine one is funny because there is not a single argument I give less of a shit about than stealing back code so I can use it

@sun @binkle @sarvo for me the theft machine thing is funny because of... aren't the same people against copyright? like, were they not aware of what no-copyright-at-all means? or what'd happen if stuff was that way? also the "information wants to be free" kind of thing. I got someone mad when I told them that when they were complaining about them and their friends' stuff being scraped (though there's nicer ways to scrape).

I think what I hate the most is the head in the sand attitude. This thing is constantly evolving and people are doing a lot of stuff with the thing. Myself included. So it's obviously not a "thing that can't do anything".

@besserwisser @binkle @sarvo @sun i often don't feel this is the case, it feels like they just want copyright respected and upheld

@mischievoustomato @binkle @sarvo @sun The usual steel manned argument here is people don't want "copyright for me but not for ye". So, AI companies are allowed to scrape whatever they want but you're still not allowed to torrent a movie.
