   “ According to Magne Mogstad, a Norwegian economist at the University of Chicago, Nordic countries primarily reduce economic and social inequalities by narrowing the differences in pre-tax income. They achieve this through a centralised system of wage bargaining that lifts wages at the bottom end and compresses them at the top. Because wage compression deliberately flattens the hierarchy of status we place on different types of work, a person’s value is more than her “marginal product”, in economics jargon.      @SpectralActivity @lain @cjd I homeschool my kids, at what amounts to 8-10 hours per week, varying widely overall - some weeks more, some less. Not having daily to jump through hoops of officialdom aimed at the lowest common denominator really frees up a lot of time and resources.

     @cjd @lain Americans doesn’t have a good education system from what I understand? One of worst in western countries i understand? The difference in tests, I seen American tests from people I know from Spain, in Spain education system is about filtering out a lot of, Norway also have easier education system than Spain but not like US

     The US also does an equal curriculum. Equal to the dumbest motherfucker in the entire class.

     @cjd @lain This article was from FT about an American who moved to Norway. Her work experience was previously being a manager of one of the world's biggest financial funds. She graduated from Harvard and was surprised that the teacher in her son's Norwegian school suggested her son do Lego when she mentioned he was far above the rest of the class. The teacher mentioned school was about an equal curriculum, unlike the US. The article discusses the differences in the system in general regarding equality among people in Norway.

     Cheap, whatever. The big point is if you dump enough young workers into the system, you can push wages down almost arbitrarily.
     
     At least until they drag you out of your house and stick your head on the end of a pike...
     
     I would use the US H1B system as an example, 20 people living in a house (illegal but common), working for an employer that if they quit that job or want to work somewhere else, they're deported. You can fiddle around with the exact definition of slavery but it's disingenuous because they have the same impact as slaves did in ancient Rome.
