     I'm not even sure there is such a thing as being gay, some people say the category was invented in the 1800s

     I think it's mostly a colloquial synonym for "phenotype", or maybe "subspecies". We don't have a problem making this distinction for other animals, plants, insects, etc, but the minute you infer this could also be the case for humans, people get insanely butthurt and it turns into DEI-style politics.

     Agreed. The politicisation is obviously a side-effect of racial favoritism in colonial times and onward. So the idea has become radioactive and few outside the white supremacist cliques are willing to acknowledge it. Understandable, but also wrong. It's really no different than people who want to deny the reality of biological sex/gender. They're afraid that doing so will result in discrimination. But facts are still facts whether people like it or not, and denying them does more harm than good.

     Being colour and race blind is really wishful thinking and you will be taken advantage of because it is seen as a weakness when many groups around the world are tribal whether we like it or not.
