@protos @Pi_rat @mikuphile Not this thread with complete retards again.
Alpine is a GNU/Linux distro - just because a garbage libc is used instead of glibc, doesn't magically make all the GNU packages included by default and necessary to build Linux, disappear.
The actually used, default install of Alpine contains GNU coreutils, gdbm, gmp, gnuTLS, grub, libgcc, libidn2, ncurses, parted, readline, tar, wget and more.
There's also a useless install, which has BusyBox (contains GNU code) instead of coreutils, but that quite clearly says; "Just enough to get you started. Network connection is required." [so the user can install all the missing GNU packages, when they realize the OS is garbage, due to missing crucial GNU packages]
Even the useless install includes by default GnuTLS, unistring, ncurses, wget, gmp libidn2 and more.

@Suiseiseki @Pi_rat @mikuphile >all the GNU packages included by default
the last time I checked this to call you on your lies, I was correct. you can't even tell the difference between a dev dependency and the actual inclusion of a package in the distro.

@protos @Pi_rat @mikuphile You haven't checked shit - if you spend 2 minutes looking at the installer, you find the GNU packages included that get installed.
Download the latest Alpine GNU/Linux installer and demonstrate that there is no GNU packages under apks/x86_64 - you can't, because there's GNU packages.
Yes, the packages for the system are compiled with gcc, but I didn't mention that.
The whole idea of dependencies is that the whole dependency, or parts of the dependency are included in the system!
https://www.alpinelinux.org/downloads/
>GnuPG signatures right there on the installation page.
Looks pretty GNU to me, but lets keep going.
>"Just enough to get you started. Network connection is required."
It's clear that the standard install image is just enough to get you started for the install of any of the missing GNU packages.
7z l alpine-standard-3.23.0-x86_64.iso
boot/grub
boot/grub/efi.img
There's the GNU GRUB OS - it's clearly GNU/Linux, but lets keep going.
cd apks/x86_64
ls gnutls-3.8.11-r0.apk libunistring-1.4.1-r0.apk ncurses-terminfo-base-6.5_p20251123-r0.apk wget-1.25.0-r2.apk gmp-6.3.0-r4.apk libncursesw-6.5_p20251123-r0.apk libidn2-2.3.8-r0.apk
That's a lot of GNU packages for something not GNU and that's ignoring the GNU dependences for all the other packages.
But there's an "Extended" install image as well; "Most common used packages included. Suitable for routers and servers." - which seems to in fact be what you would use if you don't want pretty much nothing to be included, just to be edgy.
cd apks/x86_64
Just in one pass I found;
ls coreutils-9.8-r1.apk coreutils-env-9.8-r1.apk coreutils-fmt-9.8-r1.apk coreutils-sha512sum-9.8-r1.apk gdbm-1.26-r0.apk gmp-6.3.0-r4.apk gnutls-3.8.11-r0.apk grub-2.12-r8.apk grub-bios-2.12-r8.apk grub-efi-2.12-r8.apk libgcc-15.2.0-r2.apk libidn2-2.3.8-r0.apk libncursesw-6.5_p20251123-r0.apk ncurses-terminfo-6.5_p20251123-r0.apk ncurses-terminfo-base-6.5_p20251123-r0.apk parted-3.6-r2.apk readline-8.3.1-r0.apk tar-1.35-r4.apk wget-1.25.0-r2.apk
Yes, that's right, Alpine GNU/Linux ships GNU coreutils, GNU grub, GNU ncurses, GMP, libgcc, GNU libidn2, GNU parted, GNU readline, GNU tar and GNU wget by default!
All the other packages look very similar to what comes with the default install of a typical GNU/Linux, a lot of proprietary software is included too.
(There's even Quagga there, which is an interesting choice and well that is still GNU code, as it was forked from GNU zebra).
Therefore Alpine is a GNU/Linux distro (with the only large change seemingly being musl instead of glibc - while GNU coreutils is used and even the GNU GRUB OS is used), although there is a barebones BusyBox/Linux installer just to be edgy (but of course still has GNU in it).

@protos @Pi_rat @mikuphile Alpine being GNU/Linux makes it GNU/Linux.
GNU for windows does exist - the more appropriate name seems to be GNU/kWindows.

@RedTechEngineer @Pi_rat @mikuphile @protos That proves my point.
Android is a clone of GNU, but as it does not actually include any GNU packages by default (even though it's designed with a slot for GNU bash, so you can have a decent shell), therefore it is not GNU/Linux.
Notice how people don't run around calling Android, "Linux", even though Android uses Linux as its kernel?
People haven't been intentionally confused and understand that Android is the OS and Linux is the kernel.
But people don't realize that GNU is the OS and Linux is the kernel, as "people" spread confusion by referring to GNU as "Linux".

@Suiseiseki @Pi_rat @mikuphile it has grub and 6 packages (libncurses and ncurses are just one), therefore it is gnu linux? that is indeed a kike saying the honour of the Linux operating system was promised to him 3000 years ago

@protos @Pi_rat @mikuphile GNU Linux would be GNU Linux-libre.
GNU combined with Linux is GNU slash Linux (shorthand GNU/Linux) or GNU+Linux.
Even assuming there's only 7 GNU packages included in the distro and ignoring how it's designed so the user installs the missing GNU packages, there are 7 GNU packages, while Linux is only one package - therefore just GNU would clearly be more correct than "Linux".
Linux will never be an OS - Linus is the one who says he deserves all the credit for the GNU OS, promised to him 3000 years ago under the name Linus+x.
Meanwhile, GRUB is at least an OS (it boots up and you do can things - including operating a shell, while Linux is totally useless by itself - it can't even do anything without an init and it can't even mount a partition by UUID= without a initramfs, which is pretty much an early boot GNU system, that does the things Linux can't).
Notice how Stallman doesn't go running around asking people to refer to GNU as "Stallmanx" - he rather asks for due credit to GNU to be given - rather than removing credit for GNU with lies and omission.
It's a subhuman move to claim that a GNU/Linux distro somehow doesn't contain GNU and when it's pointed out that it does contain GNU, that it's not enough GNU to be GNU.

@protos @Pi_rat @mikuphile @RedTechEngineer Yes, you can install GNU on Android via Termux to make shoddy GNU/Linux.
GNU bash is even right there in the neofetch screen (neofetch is a GNU bash script).

@HatkeshiatorTND @Pi_rat @mikuphile @protos "WSL1" was GNU/kWindows (GNU without Linux - rather Linux is replaced by a program that translates Linux SYSCALLs into windows kernel calls), while "WSL2" is glorified GNU/Linux VMs.

@protos @Pi_rat @Suiseiseki @mikuphile yes. he has said this before. many windows users use a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. it's often erroneously called WSL, when it is in fact Microsoft GNU/Windows
