I don't think I've ever seen a game incorporate "warming up" us a mechanic 🤔 I feel like there's an interesting space to play in with the idea of your performance increasing as you warm up, then decreasing as you hit your limits. metabolic juggling.
okay the basics of my research are: - as you push muscles to their limit, their peak capacity ramps downward and recovers from rest. this is like weight lifting and is the closest to "the stamina bar", but the difference of "max output lowers" vs. "hard cutoff" feels important - sustained activity has a "hitting the wall" (fast-spend fuel) followed by "second wind" (slow-spend fuel) - the two main component to sustaning+recovering are fuel intake (glucode+oxygen+water mostly)
@dymaxion yeah adrenaline seems essential. also gives a powerful tool for designing injury systems: if you take a non-lethal hit, you get stronger in the moment (adrenaline rush from the danger) and suffer the long-term consequences after you calm down and check the damage
@clarity If you've got combat in your game, you could also incorporate the effects of adrenalin — allow a faster burn of fast-spend fuel and some amount of extra-deep depletion of reserves before the wall kicks in
