schools somehow are a prison, a third world slum, an asylum, and an unpaid child labour camp, all in one. at this point just end schooling

      We homeschool.

And schools are basically prison. They're gated and fenced, they have guards, the children can't leave during off time even with parents permission, they have separate rules regarding conduct and discipline, they mandate work, and short of home schooling, the state mandates it.

Big part of why I’m homeschooling every opportunity I get; there’s zero advantage to be had from the public education gulag, nothing but stress and misery.

I forgot to add that here in California many schools have police department on campus. So law enforcement is directly involved in the discipline part.

We have that in SC too. Furman University has its own police and through some legal fuckery any crime committed on their campus has to be handled by their police. The local cops can't just go in. Same thing with some businesses. Our company has 6 police officers that handle everything on our campus

So the civil option to not have penal law involved is not an option at all. That just further cements the idea that it is in fact a prison. Trespasses cannot be dealt with internally, or forgiven, but rather are by default a matter of penalty.

Furman is also one of the strictest colleges I've ever heard of. They will expel students if they're seen holding hands with someone. Deeply, deeply old school Christian. Everyone I've ever talked to that went there described it as "A fucking prison". This is all also based on what I knew about the place in the early 2000s, I haven't met anyone recently that went there. Maybe its different now

I'm old school. I don't need the police involved. I prefer settling things, making deals, and reaching understandings. The art of politicking and fostering relations.

We're still small enough that many cops live in the community. Once they start commuting in is when you've lost. The government is effectively hiring mercenaries at that point.

I like smaller policing options. The town I grew up in only had like 5 cops and 3 cop cars. One of them was always parked at the entrance to town sign to deter speeding. Another was always at the police station, so if you passed the 3rd one you knew where all our cops were. I remember exactly one serious crime there as I was growing up and it was someone from the next town over murdering someone that lived in our town

I won't bore you with details but at 15 (legal to drive at that age then) I did something very stupid involving a bottle of rum and drag racing. Its not on my record because our town cops took me home (one drove my car, the other drove me) and explained to my Dad what I did and released me in to his custody. I really wish they'd just given me the death penalty but it didn't ruin my record. Cops that live in your community can do that stuff and I never made that mistake again

I know jail is bad and all but I would probably rather spend a week in jail than have my Dad's friend take me home because he busted me with pot. That sounds extremely bad for me

My dad was a weird guy. A good ol' boy who grew up on a ranch, hated hippies, loved the grateful dead, and no one ever talks about anything he ever did, because he didn't do nothin'. 😏

I hated middle school, but I did a lot better in high school. I found the right group of friends and started going to church and I think it set me straight until university.

tbh i hated school and the adults were all like 'wow enjoy your time here someday when you have bills and taxes and a job and responsibilities you'll really miss it!' and now that i have all those things i gotta say, child prison in the ghetto cell block really sucked ass and just having to look after me and mine as best i can is fantastic

@AsukaNeko @smugumin it's a self selected group of them! for most people,
      >dealing with kids is like herding cats; very exhausting and draining
      >managing other people's children feels wrong at a very deep level
so regardless of what wage you offer, if the job description is "teach these kids math!" a pedophile is strictly more likely to apply than a non-pedophile.
