I’ve been following the adventures of a guy who’s been making southeast and East Asian food and freeze drying them. He managed to make a great pho base for camping and another for laksa and kimchi jiggae. Frankly the food is maybe one of the reasons I dont go camping as much as I want (I don’t like simple foods at any meal, even while camping). He’s given me much inspiration.

I’ll never be the kind of person who has oatmeal for breakfast. Or a bunch of nuts. I dunno, it’s just not possible. So a lot of camping food is really hard. I think the first time I saw someone eat a bunch of nuts as a meal (not camping, but at work or something) I had a really big culture shock.

@CStamp it’s hard to sync meal prep in a group when everyone is doing the basic stuff. I need to find people who want to camp and eat like me.

@skinnylatte You can eat whatever you want and can carry. There is no “camping food.” Car camping, no real restrictions; hiking or canoe camping, you have to plan more carefully. You don’t need to eat nuts and oatmeal.

@mayintoronto I’m dreaming of going back to having 100-250 (no exaggeration) breakfast options when I get back to Southeast Asia

@skinnylatte I really like steel cut oats. Never really grew up with the Asian breakfasts, so I don't even know what I'm missing out on!

@ak @mayintoronto I like oats when I make it like congee. Fruit and sugar doesn’t sit well with me for breakfast sadly.

@mayintoronto @skinnylatte yeah oats are pretty good imo... put some butter in the pan first, with a banana and some pecans, blueberries, cinnamon, cardamom... simmer it for a while => good stuff

@skinnylatte we camp with a skillet and make a lot of 1 pan food. I also bring along meal kits sometimes. Nobody in my family will tolerate nuts and granola but I love camping.
