     Sometimes I think the world would've been better if the USSR didn't fall apart. Not because there's anything about the Soviets and their retardedly broken civilization to romanticize, but because the patriotic American exceptionalism of yesteryear worked because we had a culturally unifying rival in the Soviet Union.

     I don't even think it's really that, it's not the same because the world isn't split into communist/capitalist and east/west spheres in the same way it was during the Cold War. There aren't two separate worlds, there's a geopolitical adversary dynamic to China and the West, sure, but our economies are intertwined in a manner that the West and the Warsaw Pact very much weren't during the height of the Cold War.
