      I can feel that, too.

However, before #Trumpism and the #WarInUkraine, I am more worried about multi-regional #MadMax scenarios, due to the #ClimateCrisis:

When costal magacities are flooded and megadraughts of the past return, millions will be in flight. If this happens on sucgmh a massive scale, civilization as we know it will break down.

      Even...

(see my reply a couple of minutes ago) - it has already happened and is accelerating at unprecedented speed:

"While land #degradation has occurred throughout history, the pace has accelerated, reaching 30 to 35 times the historical rate, according to the United Nations."

I am an optimist, so I think that things will work out eventually.
However, looking at the evidence, I think we are heading for a #MadMax scenario in some regions.

The #WashingtonPost looked at all existing #ClimateScenarios at the end of last year. I did a recap on that: https://mastodon.social/@HistoPol/109461897088125927

Since then, I have read about even worse news from many regions in the world. For instance, last week I learned that for a region in central #Europe, were are...

@HistoPol @DemocracyMattersALot I could be way off but it just feels like we’ve been hearing how immediate the effects are gonna be catastrophic and how it’s irreversible at levels but we’ve passed all them and more. Maybe the major problems won’t be for 20-30 years but we can still correct it? Now the narrative is it’s reversible whenever there’s a change that we can make

      @HistoPol @DemocracyMattersALot
I know this isn’t a popular opinion on here so before I say anything, I’m completely open to the idea I could be 100% wrong. My question is do you feel like the alarms about climate change are greatly exaggerated? I firmly believe it’s real and will cause changes eventually but weren’t “they” saying it was gonna be irreversible and devastating already? I feel like the people that keep believing predictions about the end of the world and are always wrong.

      I can understand these arguments.
(As a side note: apart from the millions of excess deaths globally, the billions of lost business and the millions with physical and mental long-term, #Covid-19 induced problems are immense--and this is just one #Pandemic.
Their frequency will increase, as more and more wild animals lose their habitat and the climate becomes warmer.)

However, if you take a look at what has already happened since the #ClubOfRome...

Just take #Desertification and have a look at these pictures:

      https://earth.org/data_visualization/how-desertification-has-affected-these-9-countries-since-1984/

And then there is the huge loss of #wildlife that we have already suffered. Species, that might have been needed to find future remedies or sources of food, but which are lost to humanity forever:

@HistoPol @DemocracyMattersALot I believe climate change is happening and can be incredibly destructive eventually but I’m not so certain about it being irreversible or greatly impactful in the near future anymore. Seems more like we are hearing worst case scenarios. I think of how every year there’s a horrible new virus that is going to explode and cause a pandemic. Eventually 1 did but usually they kill/infect just a small number. This is every year! Or the deadliness of 2nd hand smoke. Same

And these are just the losses we have already suffered. The losses for humans to come, just due to #desertification, are even bigger:
