@harrybo @UKFilmNerd I've watched shows on my phone too, but for the same reasons you did, and I absolutely paid attention to them. This is such a stupid take, lol. Feels like he's far away from reality.

@Radgryd @UKFilmNerd now I will admit to watching a movie on my phone, but that was only because I was in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do while I waited for someone. I still paid 100% attention to it.
Having to change films to actually try and get people to look at the fucking phone is stupid. More fool the person for not being arsed in the first place.

In this interview, Damon says Netflix suggested having an explosive moment in the opening to catch people's attention, Keep them watching.
Then, sadly, there were further suggestions that the plot is reiterated several times within the film's dialogue, as people watching will be on their phones and won't be fully concentrating.
