   anyone who knows shit about the current state of pc building, is this okay or dumb. this seems to be decent prices (CAD) for a build that should work fine for a decent gaming rig for a younger relative. note that i know there are cheaper gigabyte motherboards, but the only motherboards i've ever had fail on me were gigabyte, so fuck them.

     where do you get windows keys these days? i'm boomer level with that since i do it like once every 5 years when a relative wants a computer and just end up buying an oem key from the store like this.

     @grey @BanditHeeler Depends on the kid, but most have been trained to be helpless. Well-bred kids raise to the standards you set for them. Treating him like he’s capable of doing these things on his own, maybe showing him the entry level ins and outs of searching and finding things could quickly end in him surpassing you if he gels with the information. All depends on age, upbringing, and intelligence though.

     I just find that many young boys really want to learn how to do technical stuff, they want to have skills, but the adults around them insist on leaving them in the dark because they’re “kids” instead of training them alongside them.

     @grey @BanditHeeler If they’re young then they could very well learn. The kids I know were self taught just like we were. For all the talk about how zoomers only use iphones they’re the only ones I see playing with pc building and trading parts IRL, most start in early teens. That’s the time to learn, too. Brain is still plasticy

     @BanditHeeler this is not for me, this is for a tech illiterate relative. the last thing i'm interested in is being tech support for them. given the cost of gas to get to them, two tech support visits would eat up the cost of that license. if there's a cheaper place for genuine keys, that's cool, but i'm not interested in trying and failing to teach them this shit.
