   Perhaps it was me, but I picked up some bicycle parts I had ordered from one of the local bicycle stores while I was out getting roof patch, and instead of the usual cold reception I get when I show up on bicycle, they were friendly. Either they just sold a bike, or there's a bias against people on bicycles at the LBS. 🤔

   (note: all their bikes are $2000+, the ones up for display up front are $8K+)

   Probably not going to be frequenting these various local shops, as they have not been too receptive to my buying repair parts locally (I'm trying to keep the local stores in business, but my impression is they would rather sell expensive bikes than deal with me buying parts. I am now suspecting there is some wrongly-assumed socioeconomic bias from my bicycling to the shops, instead of driving an expensive sedan or lifted pickup truck).

     I just went to their website, and the first road bike they show is $13,000. 👀

     @ai6yr @bud_t @c_dan4th @faraiwe I do still love my 2003 Specialized Expedition and would ride it if I thought it was safe to do so. But not going to put any money into it.

     I bought the gravel bike after that terrible beating I took in July at #24HoursOfBooty. I don't want to get hurt that bad again.

     @ai6yr @c_dan4th @faraiwe you should look at bikes on Boulder Craigslist. There are lots of *used* bikes over $5k.

     And yeah, I'm in the $2-3k bike crowd but can't imagine spending more than that unless I was absolutely swimming in cash. And honestly one of my most fun bikes was $300

     @c_dan4th @faraiwe Absolutely the case, as far as I can tell. The vehicle people use to drive their mountain bikes to the trail here are $$ too, lol.

     @ai6yr @faraiwe Honestly, there is a ton of similarity between the performance bike crowd and the performance car/truck crowd. If you want a bike to get from A to B, that’s easy and cheap. If you want to do it in some optimized way and/or get geeky about it, well my friend, do we have some options for you! Fortunately high-end bikes cost far less than high-end cars.

     @ai6yr @faraiwe The market for buying that bike have strong opinions on pedals and will supply their own. Honestly, even the $2k bike crowd (raises hand) has pedal opinions.
