   The best part is that in exchange for securitizing the loans, the US government agreed to back the banks, to the extent they owned Fannie or Freddie, with he full faith and credit of the US treasury. So when shit went belly up, the banks came knocking for their money, and we paid.

     Maybe if we all lived to be 250 years old we would blow off such timelines, but generally if I'm lending someone money I'd like there to be some expectation of being paid back before I die.
