@Aviz @pepsi_man @Jewpacabra @BrazilianContrarian I'm only hearing bits of this story but if I get it right this was done by local ®ional authorities against the wishes of Lula's government and there's a real chance that there will be reprisals from Lula's govt against the local authorities for ignoring the human rights of the poor, innocent, saintly gangsters

@pepsi_man @Jewpacabra @BrazilianContrarian BOPE is going full Predator in the jungle, they got Comando Vermelho surrounded and are basically executing everyone that doesn't surrender.
There is a picture of a decapited head of one of the cartel soldiers they left tied on a tree for the others to find to break their morale, gruesome stuff.

Ah yes, Supreme Justice Cueball. I remember him from the saga where he decreed Xwitter be banned throughout the land.

@Kang_Kong3 @Hoss @BrazilianContrarian @Jewpacabra @pepsi_man This in particular ? No.
Could it sill happen ? Maybe.
Supreme Judge Alexandre de Morais has garnered considerable unofficial influence over the entire state apparatus, in a way that it looks like a form of "Democratic Backsliding" in itself.
So for now we are probably as far removed from the head of the executive assuming unchecked power as we could be, but after this moment has passed, i don't know where we are heading.
It could be all Alexandre does is get people used to authoritarianism and as soon as he's gone, nobody is there to "defend the Republic" anymore.

@Aviz @Hoss @BrazilianContrarian @Jewpacabra @pepsi_man I'm wondering if this could lead to a Brazilian Bukele or if the system is too entrenched for that kind of reform?
The example being made of Bolsonaro makes me think the latter

@Hoss @BrazilianContrarian @Jewpacabra @Kang_Kong3 @pepsi_man Lula got outplayed here.
His base wants him to make a scandal out of this but he can't complain TOO loudly while also negotiating with Donald Trump about the tariffs, since the US is basically fighting an undeclared war with Venezuela right now for being a "Narco State".
