     I'm familiar with the nightmare that is Japanese copyright law. Makes American copyright law almost tolerable by comparison. IIRC it's nearly impossible to do parody works in Japan because of it.

     I'm not surprised, I didn't think they'd get away with that one. That's like Konami trying to patent trading card games because Magic is eating into Yugioh's market share. Even the Japanese courts aren't going to uphold an intellectual property claim so retarded.

     They're both intellectual property, but people do get them confused a lot. At least patents have a fixed window for the holder to take advantage of them, unlike copyright which has been corrupted to the point where it functionally lasts multiple lifetimes.
