     OpenRW (GTA 3 & VC), OpenTTD, OpenRCT2, OpenMW, OpenRA, and the list just goes on. All of them are good game engine rewrite projects.
     
     Btw did you know I'm working on an engine rewrite of Polygon Love 2?

     EA did release portions of the source code of the engine of Generals and Renegade this year. But nothing for Tiberium Dawn unfortunately.
     
     You can play Tiberium Sun through the CnCnet client but unfortunately the CnCnet developers are egoistic maniacs and decided to make it proprietary unfortunately.

     Using the source code release of the game they already managed to fix a whole bunch of gamebreaking issues and add things like widescreen support to the game.
     
     The end goal of this project is to also replace all the proprietary dependencies and add GNU/Linux support as well, but it's still a work in progress.

And I would definitely play the fuck out of it when the Community Patch is done removing the proprietary dependencies and has a GNU/Linux version ready.

At least they brought this legend back for a final hoorah in Red Alert 3.
     
     Also the remastered sountrack he made for the Remastered Collection absolutely slaps. Go listen to that.

     I think Red Alert 3 and Tiberium Wars were "okay", but these games definitely don't belong to the original C&C series.
     
     At least Generals unlike everything that came after it still had some of the original team from Westwood working on it, and it shows.

And I fully agree with op that generals is the worst of the ones they where involved in. But you're forgetting the giant elephant in the room that is tibtwilight and the massive shit it took on C&C. It makes generals and even red alert 3 look competent by comparison
