I had the so far unsubstantiated vibe that Github CI becoming unusable or highly restricted wouldn't be far off and started considering running my own metal for CI stuff if that direction continues

@whitequark I don't see GHA going anywhere, and it still receives regular attention, but this is aligning their public messaging with their existing practice from the past ~3 years of not wanting to engage with the community whatsoever.
Source: Someone who pays GitHub millions of dollars per year and has literally gotten nothing more than "we'll take it under advisement" from any request or suggestion.

@whitequark Basically. The difference is GitHub Enterprise's customer relations still at least pretend they want to do something other than sell you on Copilot. Broadcom long ago fully transitioned to "fuck you, pay me" as their first, last and only communication with customers.

@whitequark My understanding is that GitHub understands the immense value in maintaining the proprietary part of Actions, but has always wanted to shift the burden of maintenance of compostable actions onto the “ecosystem”.
However, they seeded/prototyped such actions in a way that “looks” like backtracking. -

@bmaxv GHA isn't a particularly great implementation of the concept and as a professional SWE who used them for close to 10 years I find them *weird* on a daily basis

Call me an idiot, but I never could figure out how to use github actions.
I understand the concept, but so far most implementations and configurations just seem *weird* to me.
Github actions is not an exception, so I'm looking forward to any working and "sane" implementations of the concept.
