It’s amazing how Stonestown is right there proving that if a downtown San Francisco mall wants to have business they should try to get more interesting tenants, instead the downtown San Francisco malls just want to complain about how nobody goes there and therefore it is that San Francisco is dying, not that they have absolutely no interesting shops whatsoever

The wait time for supreme dumplings yesterday (at stonestown) was 1.5-2.5h (it’s worth it)

@skinnylatte it always amazes me that people will line up for hours for food. As you say it’s worth it for you, I just personally can’t imagine it. I’m freaked out by crowds which might explain it, I wish I wasn’t.
I see this at the Westfield Valley Fair in San Jose, there’s a few restaurants there that always have massive lines, both being noodle shops if I recall.

@colinburgess those noodle shops in particular are much better than their competitors and the only ones I would say are comparable to options in Asia. Same with supreme. Which is why people line up for a taste of home. It’s also a different food culture (waiting for food is a thing, and our social lives center on the procurement of food with friends and family). My mother will happily stand in line for an hour for her favorite noodles at a hawker stall. Trying to get her away from it or suggesting she eat at another one will led to being disowned.

@colinburgess yeah, so some differences in things like ‘not wanting to stand in line for mom’s fave food’ or ‘not wanting to fuss over food’ is perceived to being a careless, unfilial, insensitive person who doesn’t care about the important things in life (feeding our families the best things)
I always say I find it funny when I see some other cultures really denigrate people who are picky eaters, because in my food culture we are very suspicious about people who don’t have strong opinions about food

@skinnylatte that’s really interesting. So much of the various Asian cultures that I don’t understand.

@colinburgess yeah it comes down to what feels worth it to the fam. my family does not care whatsoever for eggs and bread and i don't think i could even get them to go, even if there was no line.

@skinnylatte that’s funny because it seems like brunch is something that we often wait in line for! I guess because it’s considered a family outing?
Still drives me crazy though 😂
